Why Brazil ?
For the past seven years, Brazil has faced crisis after crisis. First political, with corruption scandals erupting and shaking the forces in play; second economical, with the shrinking of its economy for the first time in its modern history; and finally social, with the general impoverishment of its population and the widening inequality gap. Yet, Brazil is filled with potential. Everywhere in the country, young Brazilians are taking the lead and doing their best to implement positive change on their scale.
We have chosen Brazil as the first country where we implement our youth empowerment programs. With a coalition of partners on the ground, local NGOs, and our team based here in France, our program in Brazil includes our yearly Summits, mentoring, and funding opportunities for selected initiatives. We are always looking for young Brazilians eager to develop their ideas, and implement positive change in their communities. We believe in young Brazilians and their ability to bring about change, and we are here to help them do exactly that.
Our program history
Social Business Challenge (October 2018, São Paulo)
In October of 2018, we led a 3-days event with workshops in communication, fundraising, budgeting, etc where young people have learned the basic skills they need to master in order to be effective in making their projects a success. Punctuated with interventions by successful local entrepreneurs, NGO leaders, and local authorities, the young people representing their initiatives have been put in situations where they had to switch from theory to practice.
At the end of the process, a certain number of initiatives have been selected by our team based on a realistic assessment of both the positive impact the selected initiatives can make, as well as the seriousness of the application and the possibility to mentor it and make it a success for everyone. Of that process, 3 initiatives and the people involved in them are now the first ever Young Enough Ambition Grantees.
Brazil is Young Enough Summit (October 2019, São Paulo)
In 2019, Young Enough Ambition organized its second program, with the Brazil is Young Enough Summit, from the 28th to the 30th of October. The Summit gathered 40 young Brazilians willing to either learn more about how they can develop their initiatives, or learn more as to how they can make their existing initiatives a success.
For a full three days, dozens of young people in two tracks (beginners/advanced) attended workshops ranging from volunteer supervision to fundraising tips, from tech & data skills to pitching sessions. Local leaders led the sessions intended to give the participants the tools they needed to start building their initiatives. The same local leaders, in collaboration with our team, picked 2 incredible initiatives, joining the cohort of Young Enough Ambition Grantees. Finally, the Summit introduced the first ever Young Enough Talks, an occasion for local leaders to make their voices heard, and inspire participants. This year’s participants included Alexandra Loras, Thiago Fernandes from Instituto Ayrton Senna, and Ulrico Figà Talamanca of Worldcoo.
The future of the program
In the fall of 2020, we will organize our third event in São Paulo, Brazil. With the aim to attract around 50 participants to the event, our third summit will be the largest event of our Brazil program so far, and will mark Young Enough’s deep involvement in the country. More details to come soon!
